An incident involving counterfeit currency dispensed from an ATM in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad caused a stir in the local community. The ATM, located in front of a police station, became the centre of attention after users reported receiving fake Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes.

The situation unfolded when a customer withdrew Rs 300 from the ATM and immediately became suspicious upon seeing the notes. Upon inspection, he confirmed they were counterfeit. Shortly after, another individual withdrew Rs 400 and encountered the same issue, prompting both to rush to the nearby police station for assistance.

Soon, a crowd gathered outside the ATM, curious about the unusual occurrence. However, when the victims reported the issue to the police, they were met with indifference and were allegedly sent away without any action being taken.

This incident raised serious concerns among residents, who are now apprehensive about the safety and reliability of ATMs in the area. So far, there is no clarification from the bank or the ATM company regarding the issue. This has further fuelled public distress regarding the potential for counterfeit currency in circulation.

Local authorities are yet to comment on the situation.
