Mahindra and Mahindra announced on Tuesday that it is in talks with IndiGo to resolve a dispute regarding the use of the “6e” call sign in the automaker’s new electric vehicle models.

IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, has filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court, claiming trademark infringement over Mahindra’s recently revealed electric vehicles, BE 6e and XEV 9e, for which the company applied for trademark registration.

Mahindra maintains that there is no conflict with IndiGo’s standalone “6E” call sign used in aviation and across its branding. In a stock exchange filing, Mahindra confirmed that discussions are ongoing to reach an amicable solution.

IndiGo has long used “6E” as its distinctive call sign, a unique identifier in the airline industry, and has built it into its brand identity.

The airline offers a range of 6E-branded services, including 6E Prime for seat selection, priority check-in, and snacks, as well as 6E Flex for easy rescheduling and cancellations. Additional services, such as extra baggage and lounge access, further enhance the passenger experience.

IndiGo also registered the trademark “6E Link” in 2015, reinforcing its commitment to brand distinctiveness and innovation.
